Job description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a UK-wide food manufacturing business on the appointment of a Transport & Logistics Lead

As the Transport & Logistics Lead, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing our transport and logistics operations, ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of goods. This role requires a proactive leader to oversee fleet operations, driver performance, route planning, and regulatory compliance while continuously enhancing efficiency and service quality.

Duties will include:

  • Manage fleet maintenance, servicing, and compliance with legal and safety regulations.
  • Ensure adherence to transport legislation, including Drivers' Regulations, the Working Time Directive, and the Road Traffic Act.
  • Optimize delivery routes and transport schedules to reduce costs and enhance service levels.
  • Maintain accurate working time records and ensure compliance with digital tachograph requirements.
  • Ensure sufficient transport resources are available to meet business demands, including peak periods.
  • Monitor 3PL performance, ensuring service levels and costs align with business needs.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through carrier consolidation and rate negotiations.
  • Collaborate with 3PL providers to manage peak demand, special deliveries, and contingency planning.
  • Ensure full compliance with transport regulations, DVSA standards, and health & safety laws.
  • Maintain up-to-date operator licenses, tachograph records, driver hours, and vehicle inspections.
  • Manage transport budgets, analyzing costs and identifying savings opportunities.
  • Implement cost-effective transport strategies, including fuel-saving initiatives and optimized contracts.
  • Leverage transport management systems (TMS) and fleet tracking software for data-driven decision-making
  • Oversee driver recruitment, training, and performance management.


Essential

  • Three years's recent experience in transport supervisory/management position
  • CPC qualification

Desirable

  • NEBOSH or IOSH certification in Health & Safety (Desirable)
  • Experience with logistics automation, telematics, and vehicle tracking systems
