Payroll Officer (Contract)

We are working with an established client to recruit for a Payroll Officer for a period of 6 months (with possible extension) The role is for 36 hours per week and based in Ballymena.

The rate of pay is £19.04 per hour. The successful candidate would need to have prior payroll experience for this role.

The Payroll Officer role will involve processing accurate and timely payment, computerised weekly and monthly payroll for over 700 staff.

Your new role as a Payroll Officer will include.

  • Manage the delivery of a comprehensive payroll service, ensuring accurate and timely payments ensuring all statutory and non-statutory deductions are made, paid and reported on a timely basis.
  • Design and produce Payroll reports and information.
  • Reconcile and submit monthly and annual returns to relevant bodies
  • Produce interface files for the Finance system and perform monthly Payroll reconciliations.
  • Design and maintain procedures to process payments relating to employee expenses and mileage claims.
  • Calculate and approved Variations to Pay in accordance with agreed deadlines
  • Ensure robust internal controls and checking procedures are in place including those over starters and leavers
  • Produce and maintain written procedures for the payroll service.
  • Ensure Payroll information is kept confidential
  • Monitor and calculate Occupational and Statutory sickness payments
  • To provide leadership, guidance and drive performance of the payroll function
  • To effectively manage the Payroll Function
  • To take responsibility for the implementation of the function's plans
  • To lead and manage the work of the staff within the payroll function
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of HMRC and Pension legislation
  • Provide advice on the effective delivery of the payroll service such that it is compliant with the staff terms and conditions and legislative requirements.
  • Keep up to date on Payroll developments
  • Provide advice and guidance with payroll/pension queries
  • Ensure employees are paid accurately and on time.

What you'll need to succeed as Payroll Officer.

  • Previous experience processing high volumes of payroll
  • Current Knowledge of payroll procedures and related laws.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel including pivot tables & Macro's.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a reactive environment.
  • Working to deadlines.
