The construction sector in Northern Ireland is on an upward trajectory, with Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council spearheading efforts to unlock new public sector contract opportunities. Last week, the Council hosted the ‘Laying the Foundations – Winning Construction Contracts’ event at Mossley Mill, partnering with key public sector bodies to showcase over £200 million worth of upcoming construction contracts.
Representatives from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, the Department for Health, the Education Authority, and the Council’s own Capital programme presented to more than 50 local businesses, detailing significant upcoming projects and providing insights into how local contractors can secure these high-value opportunities.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Neil Kelly, commended the Council’s proactive approach, stating,
“It’s inspiring to see the Council take the lead in creating a central platform for these major contract opportunities, allowing our local businesses to grow and contribute meaningfully to the economy. The collaborative insights shared today empower contractors to seize new growth opportunities, strengthening the construction sector across our Borough and Northern Ireland as a whole.”
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council also highlighted its commitment to supporting local businesses, promoting its array of support programmes designed to help them build capacity, enhance competitiveness, and successfully navigate public sector procurement processes.
