Vickerstock are delighted to be recruitment partners with our client where innovation is at the heart of the company on the appointment of Senior Specifications Technologist. Our market leading client serve a wide range of retailer top quality beef and lamb.

As the Senior Specifications Technologist, you will ensure the integrity of our products, customers and brands is always maintained, as suitable to the role and defined in relevant procedures.

What your typical day will look like:

  • Ensure product and raw material specifications including on-line customer specifications, and other systems are accurate, updated, adhere to food safety legislation, and are approved by the relevant departments and customers and are in place prior to product production and that these are clearly communicated to the relevant production staff.

  • Complete annual reviews on all specifications and review Customers Specifications when required.

  • Create and maintain Quality Contracts, Visual Aids & Quality Attribute Standards, and subsequent processing documentation such as recipe sheets and product information databases.

  • Attend all Production/NPD Factory Trials and provide technical input into the success of these.

  • Work closely with raw material and ingredient planners, purchasers, and NPD department to effectively manage existing raw materials and sourcing and approval of new raw materials to ensure that they meet the requirements of the business through the management of Point 74 system.

  • Assist in preparation and take part in customer visits, audits, and NPD presentations.

  • Build relationships with customers around specification management

  • Travel to and attend meetings with customers and other sites.

  • Communication with management and customers should be accurate and professional at all times in both written and verbal communications.

  • Be flexible to work weekends and evenings when required.

  • This role may be asked to support other areas of the technical department.

What you will need to succeed:

  • Third level qualification in Food Technology or relevant discipline

  • Excellent knowledge and practical experience of BRC standard, HACCP, and food safety legislation

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral

  • Problem solving skills including root cause analysis, implementation of corrective action and control of non-conforming products.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in a busy fast paced environment

  • Ability to stay calm and focused on difficult situations.

  • Able to work autonomously and take direction and feedback

  • Flexible to travel for customer meetings.

  • Flexible 'can do' attitude with a confident, friendly and approachable manner.

Desirable Criteria (it would be great if you have these but don't worry if you don't!):

  • Red Meat knowledge.
