Job description
Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading building and civil engineering firm on the appointment of a Health and Safety Advisor.
As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will provide support and guidance to the project teams and be actively involved in work closely with a major client (transport sector).

In your new role:
- Promote a health and safety ethos and culture at all levels within the organisation and with subcontractors
- Ensure working practices are safe and adhere to relevant legislation
- Review subcontractor documentation, including safe systems of work
- Assist in the formulation of health and safety strategies and the development of internal policies and procedures
- Lead and deliver health and safety initiatives
- Support the in-house training of managers and employees
- Conduct regular site inspections to ensure policies and procedures are being thoroughly implemented
- Conduct investigations into accidents and incidents
- Ensure adherence to client's and internal company procedures regarding competency management for all railway project staff, including direct employees and those within the supply chain
- Develop and update company procedures as necessary to ensure compliance
- Manage and update the company training and competency matrix to ensure that training and mentoring are completed as required
- Coordinate with the operations teams to arrange training, mentoring, and assessments
- Liaise with the internal HR Department to schedule training and medicals as required
- Carry out supply chain audits to ensure both Health & Safety and Competency compliance
- The successful candidate must be prepared to work occasional night shifts to perform audits
What you will need to succeed:
- Relevant Health and Safety qualifications
- Knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation
- Experience in conducting Health and Safety accident/incident investigations
- Northern Ireland Railways - Personal Track Safety
- Previous experience within the railway industry
- Ability to work as part of a team and positively influence others
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):
- Experience of mentoring and assessing Railway Safety Critical Competencies
- CSCS card
