Job description

Vickerstock are working in partnership with a specialist construction firm on the appointment of a Health & Safety Advisor.

As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will work with the HSQE Manager and Site teams to ensure all site personnel adhere to Safe Systems of Work, comply with relevant legislation, and follow established safety policies.

In your new role:

  • Maintain a workplace environment free from health risks
  • Conduct regular risk evaluations
  • Develop safe operational procedures that account for all relevant hazards
  • Identify methods to mitigate risks
  • Ensure all work practices are safe and in compliance with regulations
  • Oversee safety inspections, report fire drills and fire alarms, manage risk assessments and lone working protocols, and ensure employees understand their responsibilities
  • Conduct new employee inductions in the office
  • Attend meetings as needed to report on health and safety issues
  • Communicate with external health and safety authorities
  • Verify that all personnel on our sites, in the office, or in the workshop have the appropriate certifications/cards for site access and their roles
  • Implement a comprehensive schedule of documented health and safety inspections, audits, and checks
  • Ensure the Company fulfils its legal obligations regarding health, safety, and welfare at work
  • Stay informed about new legislation and maintain knowledge of all health and safety laws and industry developments
  • Ensure safe installation of equipment
  • Document incidents and accidents and generate reports for management
  • Manage the safe disposal of hazardous materials such as asbestos
  • Provide guidance on specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous materials, noise, and machinery
  • Procure all necessary PPE and health and safety equipment for the company
  • Continuously review and update H&S policies and procedures, implementing changes as necessary and communicating them to all stakeholders
  • Perform any other duties as reasonably required from time to time

What you will need to succeed:

  • NEBOSH Certification
  • Health and Safety experience in a similar position - ideally within the Construction / Fit Out industry
  • Experience of handling H&S investigations and providing advice to management
  • A proactive and flexible working approach with the ability to adapt to changing situations and duties - regular travel will be required
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
  • Demonstrable experience in building relationships with colleagues, customers and other stakeholders
  • Seek ways to improve, adapt and innovate while meeting compliance and commercial requirements
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively both alone and in a team environment
  • IT skills - particularly Microsoft Office

Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don't worry if you don't):

  • Member of IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) preferred
  • CSCS Card
