Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer (Maternity Cover)

A leading company in the modular construction sector is seeking a temporary HSE Officer to join their team. This role involves providing comprehensive HSE support across various departments, ensuring safe practices and environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer HSE advice and support to managers, supervisors, and colleagues.
  • Foster strong working relationships at all levels to promote a culture of engagement and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain safe systems of work (e.g., RAMS) and ensure their effective application.
  • Oversee contractor onboarding and evaluation processes.
  • Plan, review, and document emergency preparedness across all company sites.
  • Conduct and maintain HSE inspections and records for offices, sites, workshops, and equipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including safety campaigns.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective measures.
  • Attend necessary meetings and collaborate with other staff members.
  • Ensure compliance with current HSE legislation and company policies.
  • Deliver regular toolbox talks and induction sessions.
  • Maintain high standards of work within the department.
  • Perform any other duties as required by management.

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise:

  • NEBOSH Level 3 Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven HSE experience.
  • Experience in new build and M&E construction environments.
  • Proficiency in conducting health and safety audits.
  • Knowledge of lifting operations and associated hazards.
  • Ability to create RAMS for complex works.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and technical standards.
  • Experience in accident and incident investigation.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, planning, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence change and challenge non-compliance.
  • Capability to work under pressure and independently to meet targets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Willingness to travel to various sites across the UK.
  • Full UK driving license.
